Tonight’s recipe is Roasted Garlic + Golden Beet Soup.

We’re roasting the beets + a head of garlic at 375 degrees F for 45 minutes or until tender. I’m sharing the full recipe in the audio … so turn up that volume!

Topping = fresh thyme + Aleppo pepper. It really hits the spot. ✨

Lately I’ve been working on making low, shallow

Lately I’ve been working on making low, shallow bowls on the pottery wheel. It’s my weakness. But, we all know I love a good challenge, hence I’ve been puttering around with a variety of wider pieces. Definitely not easy for a girl who loves to lift the clay walls high to the sky with a smaller base! But, I’m doing it.

This was meant to be one of those bowls. However, while throwing this piece, I sat back on my stool, took my slippery clay-covered hands off the wheel + realized how much I loved the shape. It’s a platter of sorts. Its walls are thick. They could’ve easily been raised but if you’ve seen my previous bowls (scroll down), you know I like a sturdy thick wall. It makes for a sturdy piece. A bit heavier, sure. But sturdy.

So, this is my first platter. I think it’s kinda cute. And I’m all giddy about it.

I’ve been feeling a pull to the mountains. You k

I’ve been feeling a pull to the mountains. You know this. It comes as no surprise.

And so, this month I headed out west to explore Yellowstone, The Grand Tetons + Jackson Hole. It was surreal + breathtaking. All I wanted to do was bottle up the serenity + share it with you. The bottling up part didn’t work out so well (they didn’t let me through security with it). Instead, I captured a few snapshots + videos from my days immersed in nature with incredible wildlife, trees, waterfalls + foliage.

This trip made me realize how grateful I am for having parents who immersed my sister + I in nature. In the summer, we’d go camping + crabbing in the sweltering heat of the Jersey shore; in autumn, we’d drive out to old musty log cabins in NJ State Parks + play amongst the pine trees; in winter, we’d ski the snowy slopes in Colorado; and in the spring, we’d often head to tiny bungalows in the Amish country + swing from the Weeping Willow trees. Back then, I remember feeling nurtured by nature.

I was outdoors all the time in our tiny NJ backyard. It was “the great outdoors” for me. It’s where my love for getting my hands dirty began. It’s where I pretended to bake mud pies in my little plastic outdoor kitchen. It’s where I had races with the worms my father bought for fishing. It’s where I felt free + alive. And after all these years, I’m still happiest when my hands are dirty in the kitchen, on the pottery wheel or immersed in some sort of creativity.

It’s pretty obvious I haven’t been anywhere remotely close to nature in the last two decades. NYC, in a way, has been my protection. Even a pinch of letting go, relaxation + pleasure was completely terrifying while healing. That said, it’s been extraordinary to emerge from it all + begin to experience the purity that resides in this country.

Even at a time when the world feels extremely chaotic, stepping onto these untouched lands made me deeply appreciative for the vegetation + wildlife for future generations. It gave me a glimmer of hope that there’s still the potential for each of us to be nurtured by nature even amongst the web of chaos we face in the world each day…

I spent the last few days at the shore visiting my parents where I dusted off my pottery wheel for the first time since high school twenty-three years ago.

I wasn’t sure how this would all work. I mean, it was just me. In my parents basement. With 100 pounds of fresh clay. And a wheel I wasn’t sure would actually work. But it was fabulous.

I opened the rusty bilco doors to let in the fresh air + sunshine + sat down with one intention: to make bowls. It’s what I love creating. All shapes + sizes.

I sat at the wheel twice. Once on Sunday. Once on Monday. In a few hours I threw two beautiful bowls. This is a snapshot of one taken a few minutes after I popped it off the wheel + stepped out of the basement onto my parents deck.

I can’t really describe the feelings that floated around inside me after I threw these pieces. It was my first time throwing on my own (outside of a studio with lots of people shuffling around) and I felt even more relaxed + at peace. While I loved my time at various studios in NYC, I started to feel a bit of an itch this past spring to throw alone in silence. It felt even more glorious and soothing than I anticipated - something I tend to feel every time I listen to myself.

It’s taken me 40+ years to really be able to tune into myself + listen + trust myself fully. The more I listen, the more at peace I am + the more joy I experience. Listening closely has helped pull me out of the anxious extrovert I thought I was for most of my life + led me further into deeper creativity + the joy of being an introvert. ✨
