The past few weeks… I’ve been watching people all around me, lovely normal people comparing themselves to other people, or who they think they should be or who they think they should look like. And then what happens? They feel bad about themselves and make choices that don’t honor who they are.Quinoa-Breakfast_0047And it makes me so sad every time I see a person reject themselves…

Do you know what I mean?

Because when anyone compares their body, business, job, bank account, relationship… whatever, to others – well, then they are really just rejecting yourself, aren’t they?

We all know that rejecting ourselves isn’t good news. And comparing ourselves to others surely isn’t either.

And I get it… I used to compare myself A LOT. I think most of us do. We just don’t talk about it.

Right?

And so this crazy comparing cycle continues.

I see it a lot here in NYC and everywhere I travel.

Girls who are 15. Women who are 50. Boys who are 28. And so forth…

So, instead of comparing ourselves to others, how about doing a few nice things this week? Here are a few that I’m going to be doing… what will do you for yourself this week?

Buying myself fresh flowers.

Treating myself to an organic green juice every day.

Staying positive. Because… it’s not easy if your health flops but stay strong and move on. I’m happy to honestly say that It’s OKAY to say that you had a bad day or that your life isn’t easy. I know what it’s like when you’re stuck not feeling well with nowhere to turn and you feel like you are going to a million doctors but no one is helping you… when you are spending all of your waking hours dedicated to your health.

I know.

I get it.

But you can go beyond that.

And treat yourself to something every day.

Even if it’s just a little sunshine or a sunflower.

Go ahead, you can do it.

And then you can dig into this fabulous gluten-free breakfast.

I mean, come on now, it’s not every day you get to enjoy a tasty quinoa breakfast, is it? Sit down, take a few extra minutes to savor your first meal of the day before you rush out the door and then  go treat yourself to something special… even if it’s just a nice bottle of seltzer with a fresh lemon.

…how does that sound to you?

  1. This recipe looks wonderful! I have a family that has many allergies (milk and gluten just to name a few) and this sounds like a delicious breakfast that won’t make them feel like they are missing out!

  2. I have recently started using Quinoa . Such a versatile grain. I have used it as a breakfast meal and a bottom layer with Chicken sausage, peppers, and onions. This recipe sounds great and cannot wait to try it!!!

I read this post yesterday and it was nice to read it again today. I bookmarked it this time. And the other posters are right! Those nut butters would be a lovely addition to this breakfast. I have never tried flavored peanut butter, which seems crazy to me because I love peanut butter more than anything. Okay, almost anything.

  4. I can’t wait to try this, also would love to win the nut butters. I love to use them in so many of my recipes. Thank you

  5. My husband loves quinoa since I made it for him a few weeks ago. He just requested that I make this for him for breakfast. Love that he wants to try new and healthy foods. The peanut gutters would be a great treat for him once in a while. Thanks for the great recipes and giveaways!

I understand what you mean about “rejecting yourself,” and I think the timing of such a statement couldn’t be better. Whether it was inspired by the Miley Cyrus VMA performance or not, I feel it directly reflects the desperate cry for attention that so many of us make. And while Miley is lucky enough for her cries to be seen and heard by millions of people who want to help, many others’ cries tragically go unnoticed.

Thank you for your thoughtful gesture and concern, and I agree, it’s important to love and respect yourself for who you are. And should we aspire towards something, let that something be pure and true.

Let us all do something good for ourselves, our bodies and minds today. A delicious and healthy recipe such as your Almond Quinoa Breakfast sounds like a perfect way to get it started! Rick in protein, fiber and iron, quinoa is like a big hug! Below is a link to an article on its health benefits. Enjoy!

Thanks for the Quinoa Recipe > I Needed a good one since I am new to cooking Quinoa, have bag full that I bought and have only cooked once so far. Also enjoyed reading your New Post about , for a change> How about : about doing a few nice things this week. I need to work on this badly > not comparing myself and always being down on myself and start being kinder to myself and loved that you posted > you were going to buy yourself some flowers> this is something one day soon when I have $$ for it I would like to just go pick up a small thing of flowers for myself instead of waiting for someone to get me some flowers. I will be 55 next month and I can count on one hand how many times in my life that someone has bought me flowers. And I am going to buy them for myself now. THanks!!!

  9. I love mixing some nut butter in with my hot breakfast cereal! 🙂 I was once addicted tot he White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter about two years ago and haven’t been able to find a jar since. It would make an awesome addition to my scarce college food supply!

  10. I have been on a smoothie kick for breakfast lately, but with the fall weather coming, this recipe looks absolutely delicious!
